Felting needles are the hands tools necessary to do needle felting. Each needle has notched barbs on the sides toward the bottom of the shaft. Needle felting is a process which uses barbed needles to interlock wool fibers to form a more condensed material.  Wool fibers have scales which when rubbed against each other catch and lock into place to create this denser material called felt.  Felting needles are used to entangle the fibers.  As the felting needle is moved up and down, the barbs on the needles catch the scales of the wool and entangle them into place. We have needles in four sizes: 36, 38 and 40 triangle needles and also 38 star point needle. The 36 triangle needle is excellent for fast course felting. The 38 triangle needle is used for attaching one layer to another and a good needle to use for medium felting. The 40 triangle needle is used for fine details such as sculpting. The 38 star point needle is a very fast and coarse felting needle. The more coarse the needle the larger the hole that is left in the surface. The holes can be smoothed over by using a finer needle all over the surface. Needles are available in assorted packages or packages of all one size. It is recommended to have one assorted package to complete the kits offered on this web site.
